How do I connect my PocketLab sensor?

Learn how to get your PocketLab connected to PocketLab Notebook on a computer, tablet, or phone.

A PocketLab sensor will connect via Bluetooth to most computers (Windows 10, Mac, Chromebook), tablets, and phones (iOS and Android). 

 

PocketLab Notebook

Create a free PocketLab Notebook account to save graphs of collected data. In Notebook, you can also create your own lessons or grab some from our PocketLab Library and assign them to your classes. Lessons in Notebook seamlessly integrate with PocketLab sensors for collecting data right in the lesson.

  1. Open a Google Chrome browser
  2. Navigate to https://app.thepocketlab.com/trials
  3. Click "Connect a PocketLab" - a Bluetooth connection window should appear in the browser. Bluetooth should be turned on, but you should not connect directly in your Bluetooth settings.

  1. Turn your PocketLab on. The name of your PocketLab should appear in the connection window.
  2. Click on the name of your PocketLab and then click "Pair"
  3. It should connect automatically and you should now see data streaming directly to the graph.

Note: There is also an option to use your computers internal device sensors, which will show Audio levels by default. Make sure to click Connect a PocketLab and not Use Device Sensors to connect to your PocketLab. 

PocketLab Notebook iOS App

Use on iPhones and iPads to connect your PocketLab sensor. 

  1. Open the Apple App store and search for "PocketLab"
  2. Download the PocketLab app
  3. Open the PocketLab app
  4. Click "Connect a PocketLab" - a connection window should appear
  5. Turn on your PocketLab - the name of your PocketLab should appear in the connection window
  6. Click on the name of your PocketLab to connect
  7. Your PocketLab should connect automatically and you should now see data streaming directly to the graph

Note: To connect a PocketLab sensor on iPhones and iPads you will need to use the PocketLab Notebook iOS app. You can still access PocketLab Notebook on a Chrome browser on an iPhone or iPad, but you will not be able to connect your sensor in the Chrome browser.

PocketLab NOtebook Android App

Use the Android app for Android phones, tablets, and Chromebooks. While you can use Notebook directly in the browser, the Android App is better for mobile devices and useful for offline data collection.

  1. Open the Google Play store and search for "PocketLab"
  2. Download the PocketLab app
  3. Open the PocketLab app
  4. Click "Connect a PocketLab" - a connection window should appear
  5. Turn on your PocketLab - the name of your PocketLab should appear in the connection window
  6. Click on the name of your PocketLab to connect
  7. Your PocketLab should connect automatically and you should now see data streaming directly to the graph
