Read these guidelines before using PocketLab Notebook's AI tools in your classroom
1. You Are the Expert – AI Is Just a Starting Point
AI-generated content is a first draft, not a finished product. Think of AI as handling the early stages — about 80% of the work — but it’s your role to complete, review, and polish the final 20% using your professional expertise.
Use AI to help brainstorm ideas, generate scaffolds, or speed up repetitive tasks — but always apply your judgment to ensure the final product meets your standards and your students’ needs.
2. Always Review Before Sharing
You are responsible for reviewing and revising any AI-generated content before presenting it to students, parents, or colleagues. In particular, make sure the output is:
-
Factually accurate
-
Free of inappropriate language or sensitive content
-
Aligned with your lesson objectives and age-appropriate
3. Check for Bias and Inaccuracy
While AI models are trained to minimize harmful content, they may occasionally produce:
-
Outdated, incorrect, or fictitious information
-
Culturally insensitive or biased phrasing
Please read carefully and revise with your own professional lens.
4. Understand What AI Can and Can’t Do
AI is a helpful tool — not an all-knowing source. It can assist with generating ideas or organizing content, but it has limitations. For example:
-
AI does not "know" the world — it generates responses based on patterns in data.
-
AI is not a source of truth, and it cannot replace your expertise in pedagogy, science, or educational standards.
-
Historical and current event knowledge may be incomplete or outdated.
5. Do Not Enter Personal Information
To protect student and family privacy, never enter personally identifiable information (PII) into AI prompts. This includes names, emails, addresses, grades, or any sensitive data about students, parents, or colleagues.
PocketLab complies with FERPA and COPPA, and it is your responsibility to ensure prompts do not violate your school’s privacy policies.
6. Use Responsibly and Legally
You agree to use PocketLab’s AI tools:
-
In compliance with all applicable laws and school or district policies
-
Only for educational and professional purposes
-
Without attempting to generate harmful, offensive, or misleading content
7. Feedback Helps Us Improve
If you see something strange, inaccurate, or problematic in the AI output, let us know. PocketLab is committed to building safe, useful tools, and your feedback makes that possible.
