How to Enable and Disable Location Permissions

Teacher accounts are able to track location data from PocketLab sensors. Learn how to enable Location Permissions here.

Create or Sign in to a Teacher Account

To protect student privacy, only teacher accounts are able to record and track location data. You must sign in as a teacher to enable location permissions.

When signed in as a teacher, you can visualize recorded data on a map and export .csv data with the latitude and longitude of your recorded data.

PocketLab Notebook in Google Chrome

Sign in as a teacher, then connect to a PocketLab sensor, open the settings menu, and click Enable Location Data

You will get a popup asking to enable location permissions in Google Chrome.

If you say yes, Notebook will attach your current latitude and longitude to your recorded data. You can view this location data by downloading a CSV file. You can change your location permissions at any time by clicking the waypoint icon in the address bar. If you block location permissions, you will have to click Enable Location Permissions in the settings menu again.

iOS PocketLab App

Sign in as a teacher, then connect to a PocketLab sensor, open the settings menu, and click Enable Location Data

You will get a popup asking to enable location permissions. You can later change your location permission settings in Settings > PocketLab > Location. Note: Location permissions will only be visible here after you've clicked Enable Location Data while connected to a PocketLab sensor.

If you set your permission to "While Using the App" your location data may not be saved if you navigate to a different app or turn your phone screen off. We recommend setting location permissions to "Always" for the duration of your data recording and then changing the permission after recording if you prefer.

Your location data is only used to attach latitude and longitude to a CSV file of your data.

Android Notebook App

You can change your location permissions by touching and holding the Notebook App icon > App info > Permissions > Location

If you set your permission to "Only while using the app" your location data may not be saved if you navigate to a different app or turn your phone screen off. We recommend setting location permissions to "All the time" for the duration of your data recording and then changing the permission after recording if you prefer.

Your location data is only used to attach latitude and longitude to a CSV file of your data.
