Setting Up Classes and Adding Students

  1. In the PocketLab Notebook app, click "Classes" in the sidebar
  2. Click Add Class

  3. Fill in your class information in the form that pops up and click Create. If you'd like students to have individual student codes for login, check the box for Require unique student codes.
  4. Click Add Students to create student accounts
  5. Add students names to the roster, each on a separate line. Make note of any capitalization and abbreviations you use as these will also be the student's usernames for signing in.

How to Remove Students

If you need to edit your roster later, you can always remove students.

  1. Click the Three Dot Menu to the right of their name.
  2. Click remove from Class.

Note: Any assignments or work they have done in this class will remain in this class and will not be deleted.

Assign Lessons

  1. Navigate to the Lesson you'd like to assign
  2. Click Assign to Class in the top right corner of the Lesson
  3. The Lesson will now be staged in the Class, but not yet visible to students. Click Assign.
  4. Choose to assign to students in Lab Groups or as Individual Work. If you select Lab Groups, click Add Lab Group and choose which students are in each group.
  5. Click Send Assignment. Your lesson is now assigned and students will see the lesson when they log in.

Unassign or Delete Lessons

  1. Click the Three Dot Menu next to the Lesson you would like to remove.
  2. Click Delete to delete the assignment. Students will no longer be able to see the assignment.

Editing Groups

After assigning to students in Groups, use the check boxes to move students between groups. Even after assigning, you can always move students between groups.

Note: If students have already done work in an assignment, after they are moved their existing work will remain in the original group's assignment. Any new work they do will happen in the new group's assignment.

Logging in with a Class Code

  1. Students can log in by navigating to https://app.thepocketlab.com/auth/class-code  or https://app.thepocketlab.com/ and clicking Students

  2. Students can then enter their Class Code and name (and optional Student Code) to log in.

NOTE: Students will need to enter their name exactly as it is entered in your roster, including capitalization and punctuation. For example "Albert E."

  3. Students will see all of their Assignments with the newest assignments at the top.
